Overcoming Workplace Stress
Workplace stress is increasingly common. Some workplaces have a very healthy environment, but others can be considered to be toxic. People are expected to do much more with fewer resources and support. In some cases the workload is simply not sustainable. Companies are regularly announcing redundancies. For others the main form of workplace stress is in the ‘politics’. If any of these factors affect you personally then you are probably not just feeling stressed, but feel trapped and without choices.
There are two forms of control. First order control is when you get to change the environment. This might mean that you can transfer yourself out of the department, or remove the manager or other offending individual, or you have the capacity to simply quit. Second order control is where you do not have control of the environment, and are left with no option but to control how you respond to the environment.
Hypnotherapy is particularly useful in dealing with workplace stress when it comes to this second order control. We can help you disconnect from the drama and take control of your own reactions. The truth is that nobody controls your thoughts and feelings except you. When you say that you are stressed out by somebody else, you are giving them power they don’t actually have. Hypnotherapy is a well-established treatment option for people struggling with low self-confidence or poor self-esteem. if you are struggling with poor self confidence then you are running a pattern that is hard to change with standard talk therapies, but quite readily changed with hypnotherapy.
WHAT IS POOR SELF-CONFIDENCE REALLY?
In essence we’re talking about a belief about ourselves that is counter-productive. From our point of view the goal is not high self-esteem. Sociopaths have high self-esteem. The goal is for you to become more realistic about your own self-assessment. For you to become more accepting of the good, the bad, and the relatively neutral aspects of yourself. In short your confidence levels should match your skill sets. There is nothing more dangerous than someone who is extremely confident but doesn’t have the skills to complete task.
We will ask you what criteria you use to make a self-assessment. Is the criteria external or internal? Do you assume that other people are constantly judging? Do you have an excessive need for approval? Do you tend to avoid conflict? How do you feel about failure or rejection? Ultimately what most people deem to be poor self-confidence can be treated very well with our form of hypnosis. We will help you give yourself permission to be okay with who you are and how you are, knowing that you are a work in progress and are good at things you’ve never even heard of yet.

It is important to note that the poor self-assessment is something that you learn quite young. Unfortunately it won’t change appreciably throughout your life unless you do something significant to intervene.

If you have been having trouble setting goals or becoming proactive in your life, then our form of hypnotherapy can help. Many people struggle to clarify what they really want in their lives. Many people can tell you much more about what they don’t want, than what they actually do want. This is because most people who have trouble setting goals have an avoidant coping style – they’d rather avoid problems than deal with them! And typically they are also more conflict adverse than most. If you are having trouble even setting a direction, not just goal-setting, then you are not that uncommon, but it is important to do something about it or risk floating around aimlessly for the rest of your life.
Through hypnosis we can explore future options and determine the critical pathway that you will take to get you there. We can also establish whether you have a “well formed condition” around your goals, (NLP technique) so that they are congruent and you don’t waste your time pursuing goals that are not really right for you.

Procrastination
Many people come to us to get over procrastination. Many people refer to themselves as “procrastinators.” This is an unfortunate self-labelling that often does not serve the individual. There could be many reasons why people procrastinate, but being lazy is not generally our first port of call. Strangely, if you lean towards being perfectionistic, you are much more likely to procrastinate because you don’t want to get things wrong.
Sometimes people procrastinate because they simply don’t know the first step. Sometimes they know what the next step is but don’t know how to implement it or simply don’t like it. At other times it is deemed too costly either emotionally, financially or from a time perspective. Others get stuck because they simply don’t have the skills or foundational knowledge to complete the task. Obviously we don’t know what’s happening for you, but we are confident that the issue is not something as simple as you being lazy or a procrastinator.
